I'm Baaaack!!!!

For the 5 of you who actually follow my blog, you are probably wondering where I disappeared to? I was not tossed in some South American Jail, abducted by aliens, or touring with Nickleback, I was adulating...hard.

Some of you know I recently got married back in April to a wonderful woman who I still can't believe does not smother me in my sleep (if you ask her I do that as my pillow slowly inches toward her face). We took the even bigger step of purchasing a home. I have gone from a cramped 2 bedrooms smelling of my neighbor's pot smoke to a 4 bedroom home. Even though there are two of us, she needs an office for her job, I wanted a studio, a bedroom for us to share, and finally a guest bedroom (or future child's room) as referred to as the "Chuck's done fucked up room and wifey is mad" room. The last few months have been spent packing, yard work, unpacking, and home improvement. I also waited to buy a computer not filled with viruses that will allow me to make videos and vlogs.

Please allow me to take you on a tour of my studio. This is where the magic happens (other than the bedroom, nudge, nudge, wink, wink...wow that was corny). My painting area list by two Ot Lights, Photo Tent, and the new computer. Don't mind the rest of the waste. The paint caddy I have had for many years and I see no reason to replace it. The other paints will eventually be held in a nail polish holder once I order it.

Below are my cases for past projects, heroclix, RPG books, and random items of mass geekery. I have recently purchased two 2x4 tables to make a 4x4 so I can play Guildball and Warmachine as well as other mini games. I love my LGSs, but sometimes I just want to stay home and game.
I plan to post more frequently than in the past.
Thanks for your time.

Artistic Rant...what painting really costs.

I had attempted to advertise my painting on a Facebook group a while back and a few people commented that they thought I charged too much. They were not nice in their response. So let me break it down for you. Here is what painting a model really costs! The words in bold are the items for which the price is being listed.

I have to clean the models, that requires a hobby knife, and files: $10

I have to glue the model to the base: $3

If the model does not have a base I have to provide it: $.25

I have to prime the model: $.99

I then use a minimum of 10 paints: $30

I use at least two different brushes once of which is a Series 7, and a crap brush: $20

I have to Seal the model: $3(the price is actually 5, but I use the Hobby Lobby Coupon)

I then flock the model: $5

So with materials you are looking at 72.24 and I have been doing this for years so I know how to do it on the cheap. This does not take into account the amount of time I have taken to learn the techniques, classes taken and so on.

I often wonder if these people try to talk down their mechanic, the guy at McDonalds, etc....

Where are you?

Sorry all,

Upon accessing my blog today I was disappointed to find that I neglected to update it all throughout the month of May. My only excuse is that I was busy with real life as I was stuck in a big commission and I am also trying to buy a house.

I hope to get back to posting more meaty posts in addition to just pretty pictures. But until that day here are some pretty pictures.

Guld Ball

I have a confession to make. While I love painting, I am a pretty horrible gamer, that being said one thing I suck at even more is sports. So what would be a worse idea than me playing sports, but instead a sports based miniature game. Over the years I have tried to play sportsball games, painted numerous Bloodbowl armies, and even tried Mantic's Dreadball. Either no one was playing, not knowing the rules against very versed opponents were all barriers to play. Also I never liked the quality of the minis available they were either Restic in the case of Mantic or uninspired.    I introduce to you....GUILD BALL.

Apparently this game has been around for a while (year plus) and is a rugby like soccer game. Our LGS has picked up this game and it is selling like hotcakes.

Pros:

The miniatures are metal and the sculpts are beautiful.
They do not look like a thing like a sports teams, I already had a guy buy my Fishermen for his RPG and has no intention to play the game.
You only need a few miniatures to play.
The FULL RULES are free on line. http://steamforged.com/
The mechanics are pretty simple utilizing resource management ala Warmachine focus mechanics and buckets of dice looking for an amount of successes of the dice.
Models are very durable, it is impossible for a model to be "one shotted" as they can in Malifaux, 40k, X-wing, etc..."

Cons:

Coming SOOOOOOOOON

Not much of a post this week, I am still reeling from the post Wedding Chaos. She showed up and said "I Do," so the poor girl is stuck with me. I wanted to show off some models that are going live on Ebay tomorrow. I will return soon with my own brand of sarcasm and game talk. Thanks for listening.

And they call it Heavy Metal....

No real theme today, I just want to post pictures of guys in armor and a bard to sing about them. Most of these are Reaper figures except for the one resin GF9 figure. For obvious reasons I like how the tiefling turned out.
